The fleet comprises 61 plants, though this count includes small backup generators; capacity is the meaningful measure of size.

Natural gas leads the fleet at 30.6% of total capacity across three plants, followed by nuclear at 27.1% from a single unit. Coal and hydro each account for roughly 10.6% to 10.8%, with 31 hydro plants providing 486 megawatts and one coal plant 496 megawatts. Wind, battery storage, and solar make up the remainder: 214 megawatts from five wind plants, 44 megawatts from one battery facility, and just 4 megawatts from two solar installations. Other sources contribute 15.2% of capacity across 17 plants.

Seabrook, a nuclear plant with 1,242 megawatts, is the state's largest facility, joined in the top five by two gas-fired plants: Granite Ridge at 790 megawatts and Newington Energy Center at 606 megawatts. Merrimack, a coal plant, holds 496 megawatts. The fleet's oldest plant still in service is Hooksett, which came online in August 1927, while the newest is Jackman, which entered service in February 2026.
