Delaware's generating fleet in context

Delaware's power plants hold 3,024 megawatts of capacity — this is what the equipment could produce running flat out, not what it actually generated. The state ranks 48th among the 51 entities measured, counting down from the largest fleet. Thirty-nine plants are in service. Natural gas dominates the fleet at 2,781 megawatts, or 92% of capacity, spread across 10 plants. Solar and other fuels together make up the remainder: 119 megawatts of solar across 21 installations, 123 megawatts from other sources across 7 plants, and 2 megawatts of wind from a single facility.

The largest plants by capacity are Hay Road, a natural gas station with 1,098 megawatts in New Castle County, followed by Edge Moor at 710 megawatts, also natural gas and also in New Castle. Garrison Energy Center LLC in Kent County supplies 361 megawatts of natural gas capacity. Delaware City Plant, in New Castle, adds 324 megawatts, and Energy Center Dover in Kent provides 118 megawatts. The fleet spans from Edge Moor, which first came online in December 1954, to NL DE Taylor CSG, which entered service in May 2026.
