Massachusetts electricity prices in context

In May 2026, residential electricity in Massachusetts cost 28.82¢/kWh, the fifth most expensive rate among the 50 states and DC. The state's price was 10.38¢/kWh above the national average of 18.44¢/kWh, a premium of 56.3%. A typical residential customer paid $183 per month for 603 kWh in May 2026. The national average monthly bill was $155 for 871 kWh—a higher consumption but lower total cost. Commercial rates stood at 24.07¢/kWh and industrial at 19.94¢/kWh.
