Oklahoma electricity prices in context

Oklahoma's residential electricity rate stood at 13.38¢/kWh in May 2026, making it the second-cheapest in the nation among the 50 states and DC. The rate was 5.06¢/kWh below the US average of 18.44¢/kWh, a difference of 27.5%. Among its neighbors, Oklahoma undercut Missouri at 13.68¢/kWh but cost more than no bordering state; Texas charged 16.44¢/kWh, Colorado 16.16¢/kWh, Kansas 15.13¢/kWh, Arkansas 14.36¢/kWh, and New Mexico 14.12¢/kWh.

Over the past five years since May 2021, the rate has climbed 23%, from 10.88¢/kWh. The longer view is steeper: since May 2006 the rate has grown 61.8%, from 8.27¢/kWh, and since records began in January 2001 it has more than doubled, rising 104.9% from 6.53¢/kWh. The recent high came in September 2025 at 14.79¢/kWh; the all-time low was 5.65¢/kWh in January 2002. At current rates, the average residential bill was $141 monthly on usage of 1,043 kWh, compared with the national average bill of $155 on 871 kWh per month. Commercial and industrial rates stood at 8.10¢/kWh and 6.17¢/kWh respectively, having risen 3.4% year over year.
